After a busy week of gym, cycling and eating a lot better than normal, I decided to change it up a bit for todays session at the gym. I’ve been doing a lot of reading about ‘Best ways to use weight’, ‘Lose weight quickly’, ‘Best exercises to shift stubborn fat’ and all that nonsense and it would appear that once again ‘Compound Movements’ are the way forward. As far as I can gather, compound movements involve more than one joint and more than one muscle group. Basically it gives my whole body a workout. Having a back about as strong as Sooty and Sweep, squats and deadlifts haven’t been my favourite things over the years. There have been many times when I’ve done deadlifts or squats and then the next day I’ve struggled to move so I have looked closely at form and weight combinations. Recently, DW Fitness got some new kit in the form of a range of sandbags. Knowing that sandbags aren’t stable, they require you to focus, have a strong core and fully control the movement. I used both the 15kg and 20kg sandbags to get me going today and despite it being one of my least favourite exercises, I fully enjoyed the squat session. I’m definitely going to incorporate these into my workouts more frequently! I’m looking at shifting some weight and, all being well, I hope that with these full body movements/ exercises I can make some progress.
